The launch of the Apple Mixed Reality headset has been postponed until 2023

According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple's VR/AR headset, which has long been rumored, may be delayed until 2023 due to technical problems. Sources claim that the device was planned to be announced during the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, after which an official launch will take place at the end of this year. However, recent setbacks may force the company to postpone publication for several months.

We first received news of a potential mixed reality headset being developed by Apple back in 2018. Since then, we've heard reports that the combined VR/AR device will have everything from two ultra-high definition 8K displays with integrated gaze tracking technology, 12 cameras with hand tracking support, and a variety of controller options.

According to Bloomberg sources, the headset has been in development since 2015 and is intended to replace the iPhone over the next 10 years. However, consumers will have to wait until next year to get the long-awaited device. The same sources claim that the company is looking for suppliers to launch the product in early 2023, and the developer conference next year will presumably be devoted to virtual and augmented reality applications for the headset.

It is also reported that the company is working on a more advanced pair of specialized AR glasses, which will presumably be released some time after the mixed reality device. In April of this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that augmented reality will be "critically important" for moving the company forward, saying: "I can already see AR gaining momentum in some of the areas using the phone. And I think there will be even more prospects in the future."

The upcoming iOS 16 update will reportedly lay the groundwork for the upcoming launch of the mixed reality headset, meaning an official unveiling may be imminent. It is expected that the latest update, codenamed "Sydney", will appear on iOS devices in June this year.

Although Apple is committed to VR/AR technologies, the company has little interest in creating its own metaverse and will instead focus on high-quality content. Since Facebook announced its move to Meta, we have seen many companies, organizations, and public figures taking an increasing interest in the growing metaverse. However, it seems that Apple will not participate in the creation of the metaverse yet.
